NELSON
MANDELA
Nelson
Mandela was the first black president of South Africa.
He
was born in a tribe. He met his second wife and married her in 1958.
They had two girls.
Nelson
left the tribe and went to Johannesburg to study Law. He joined the
ANC, African Nacional Congress. In 1964, he was sent to prision. An
international campaning started to free Nelson, so Mandela became a
symbol.
In
1990, he was released and he went around the world telling people
about Apartheid. When the regime finished, people wanted an election.
So, in 1994, Mandela was elected president for five years and it was
the first time black people voted.
I
think that Nelson Mandela was a very important person in the world,
because he wanted the freedom for his people and he “fought” for
it. He spent 27 years in prision and when he was released, he made it
possible that black people could vote. Not everybody would risk their
lives to find freedom for their people and for me it is something.
